The Hilton Amsterdam opened in 1962, the first international Hilton Hotel in Europe and the first international hotel in The Netherlands. Designed in 1958 by the Dutch architect Maaskant, its structure continued along the same lines of Berlage's earlier ideas. The hotels characteristic V-shape is significant as it shows where the two main avenues of Amsterdam meet, the Apollolaan and the Minervalaan.
The Hilton Amsterdam is located in the South of Amsterdam in Het Apollokwartier, the commercial and fashionable heart of the city. A 15 minute drive from Schiphol Airport and 5 minute drive from the downtown area. Exclusive shopping areas, museums, galleries and some of the citys most fashionable restaurants, bars and nightlife surrounds the hotel. In 1998 the hotel was totally rebuilt.
