Places Around La Sorbonne
La Sorbonne is a common name of the University of Paris which dates back to the middle of 12th century, when it was founded. In 1970 its structure was modernized, now it was 13 autonomous universities, four of which are presented in the historical Sorbonne building while three more include ‘Sorbonne’ in their names. All of these structures are united by one rectorate which is above, it is called the Rectorate of Paris and offices in the Sorbonne.
The building of the Sorbonne is nowadays a house to Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, Paris-Sorbonne University, and Paris Descartes University, also the Rectorate of Paris, the Ecole Nationale des Chartes, the Cours de Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne, the Ecole pratique des hautes etudes and the Library of the Sorbonne.
It is notable that at present Sorbonne doesn’t refer to the University of Paris, but to the historical building.
