Places Around Galleria Borghese
The Borghese Gallery is a well-known all over the world art gallery in Rome, which became home for numerous masterpieces. It is placed in the building of former Villa Borghese which is surrounded by gardens and looks much like an oasis of calm in a big city.
The collection of the Gallery was begun by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, after whom it was actually called. Most of original sculptures and paintings in the Gallery date back to his times. During centuries, the collection felt benefits and looses. For example, in the beginning of the 19th century a lot of statues and other interior decorations were sold to Napoleon which gave birth to the Borghese collection in Louvre.
Nowadays the Gallery Borghese houses one of the biggest private collections in the world, and definitely worth seeing when in Rome.
